(Los Angeles, Ca.) OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network will premiere the anticipated docu-series “Why Not? with Shania Twain” featuring country/pop music sensation Shania Twain on Sunday, May 8 from 11 p.m.-12 a.m. ET/PT immediately following the “The Judds” finale (10-11 p.m. ET/PT). The series will move to its regular time period (Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT) beginning the following Sunday, May 15.

“Why Not? with Shania Twain” intimately documents the amazing journey of the music superstar who, by the age of 22, had survived a childhood of poverty and the loss of both her parents’ in a devastating accident. She went on to become the best-selling female artist in country music history. Then at the height of superstardom, Twain was blindsided by a double-betrayal shattering her 14-year marriage. Now she opens up about her life-altering heartbreak and how she’s moving on. Viewers will follow Twain as she begins her climb back to the top through a personal journey filled with risk, revelations and unexpected adventures.

In the series, Twain sets out on a tour of healing, sharing and rediscovering her voice. She returns to her childhood home in Timmins, Northern Ontario, Canada with her sister, Carrie Ann, to revisit the memories of their adolescence and their parents shocking death. She then continues on her journey with her bandmates and closest confidants as she steps out of her comfort zone on a cross-country adventure. Along the way, Twain meets with vocal doctors and coaches, as well as a grief counselor to work through the emotional connection of her vocal restrictions. She also meets with people and families that have experienced similar hardships in their lives, and has intimate one-on-one conversations with experts in the music industry including Gladys Knight, Lionel Richie and David Foster, who provide guidance and inspiration as she attempts to reclaim her voice.

The series is produced by Gay Rosenthal Productions. Gay Rosenthal, Bryn Freedman and Shania Twain are the executive producers.
